Dexter the Dapper: A Gentleman Looking for a Calm Castle

Howdy there! Dexter here, an 8-year-old, male, 55-pound English Bulldog with a goofy personality and a heart full of love. I landed in rescue because my last home had three young kids, and, well, let’s just say I’m a guy who prefers a more laid-back vibe.

My foster family says I’m one-of-a-kind, and I’ll tip-tap my toes to prove it—especially when I’m excited or feel the need to “protect” my people. I’ve mastered the fine art of couch lounging, thanks to my trusty step stool, and I’ll happily tuck myself into my dog bed or the couch for a cozy night’s sleep (bedrooms just aren’t my scene).

I’m a polite eater who lives for mealtime and treats. I also love toys, especially a good game of tug-of-war—don’t worry, I keep it gentle! While I’m no doggy Einstein, I’ve got the basics down: I can sit, I’m fully house-trained, and I’ll let you know when it’s time for a bathroom break with a quick bark or a stroll to the door!

I’m a gentleman most of the time, but I can’t resist barking and slightly lunging when I meet new dogs. It’s not aggression—I just get a little overexcited! Oddly enough, I’ve been seen hanging out at the dog park without a problem. With some patience and guidance, I’m sure I’ll get the hang of meeting new canine pals.

I’d love a calm and quiet home where I can be the center of attention (no young kids, please). While I’m okay with stairs for now, a home with a backyard would be a dream—I loved roaming around during my holiday stay.

I’d probably do best as the only pet in the home, but who knows? Maybe I’ll surprise you! My ideal family would be home often or have a stable schedule. I’m a low-maintenance guy but would appreciate someone willing to care for me as I enter my golden years, including keeping my paws and nose in tip-top shape.
