YES! CHEF! Name’s Carmy. Short for Carmine or Carmen or because of the caramel swirls in my coat, but don’t get it twisted; I’m not the sidekick. I’m the main character. I’m about a year old, and weigh 45lbs.
Like my namesake from that gritty Chicago kitchen, my first year of life has been anything but smooth. Spent way too long in a crate, people were not very nice to me, and I barely saw the world—but now that I’m out? I’m soaking up everything. I move like a bunny in a bulldog body—my back legs do their own thing and I’m still figuring it all out, but I bring the chaos in the best way. Organized chaos. Chef’s kiss.
Like any Chicago chef, I’ve got to taste everything to make sure it’s up to par, so yeah, I get a little mouthy. But not in a ‘watch out, I’ll bite’ kind of way. More like, yo, what is this thing and why is it squeaking?’ Rope toys, tennis balls, bones, stuffies—you name it. Instant joy! Especially when you’re there, playing with me. My foster parents are teaching me what’s okay to chew on and what’s off-limits.
“Every second counts” so I warm up to people pretty fast once I know you’re safe. Bigger dogs? I take my time—don’t want any drama in my kitchen, you know? Dogs my size that don’t mind my puppy energy, though? We vibe. Cats are still a mystery, but I’m open to new cast members. Little kids are a mystery to me, but I don’t think they could handle my energy- maybe an older kid.
Crates used to be my prison. Now? They’re my trailer. My quiet space. My foster parents say, “go night-night” and I run right in for my treat. I’m also working on “sit” and trying to figure out this walking on a leash thing. I’m a smart guy so I’ll have that down soon. Just don’t take away my yogurt—trust me, the air quality depends on it. Oh, and did I mention that I'm house trained too!
I’m happiest when I’m in the middle of the action, chewing my toys or hopping along behind you, trying to keep up with this brand-new world. I’m awkward, I’m scrappy, and I’ve got a lot of heart. You don’t need perfection when you’ve got passion.
Let it Rip!
