Hi! I’m Cooper! I am a 4-year-old, 71-pound hunk of love and joy. At least that’s what my foster mom says. I can’t disagree because I basically love everyone I meet (and they love me right back!), and I am so happy to be wherever I am. In my eyes, life is an adventure, and I’m always down for it.
When we first met, my foster mom and I watched a video about my name, and it said, “ With a Cooper by your side, you know you can count on them to get the job done – no matter what obstacles stand in their way.” That’s Me!! Totally!. Nothing phases me. (Well…maybe vet visits…but who does not get nervous when you are getting poked and maybe even getting shots?) But other than that? I’ve got it handled.
Of course, I must be clear. I am the one who decides the job we do and how we’ll get it done. I won’t be wasting our energy doing anything that seems to be unnecessary. Cuddles will be our number one priority. I make them easy by laying in your lap and looking adoringly in your face the whole time. I also am very glad to help you watch television – especially if you pet me behind the ears. Walks are another task that I love to help with. I love them, and I won’t pull you around, but I do know the pace and exactly how far we need to go and not an extra step farther. I should let you know that I find stairs to be a little bit extra, don’t you? One level living would be ideal, but a few steps up or down are understandable – especially if there is a happy home on the other side.
You just need to know that I am pretty confident in my leadership potential. This means that I may not register what you are telling me all the time – especially if I am not making eye contact. My foster mom says she is not sure if I am HARD of hearing or if I have SELECTIVE hearing. Whichever it is, make sure you get my attention when you want me to do something.
On the other hand, I am also proud of my charming good looks, so feel free to wash my wrinkles and clean my ears. Frankly, my ears will probably need lots of attention. It seems like I have had a number of ear infections in my life and that may explain how I hear. The one place that I am still a bit nervous about getting cleaned is my tail pocket. When you try, I may sit right down and make it hard to find. But I like a good shower or a bath in a kiddie pool, and it is usually easier to get me to cooperate then.
Oh! And you know how I said cuddles are Number 1 priority? I have been known to nibble on shoulders while we sit on the couch together if you are not petting me enough. My foster parents say that is not polite, so we are working on it, but sometimes I just can’t help myself.
If you are looking for a loving, detail oriented close supervisor and buddy to guide you through your days, that is me! To be clear, I am actually very mellow and skilled in the arts of bulldog persuasion. I love to employ the tactic of lying down when we are about to veer from my – I mean OUR – objectives. Other than that, I like just about everyone I meet so if you are social and like to have people over, I will be in heaven. Car rides are a-MAZING! I get along well with other dogs, though I may not pick up on social cues right away. (My foster sister, Ellie, has had to correct me a few times, but once she sets me straight I understand and agree.) I think I would like children but I haven’t been around any since I met everybody at CEBR so I can’t say for sure. AND I am basically house trained, just keep an eye on me when I head for the door because I may not say much more about it.
When I think of my forever home, I think of a place without too many stairs with someone who will love me and give me lots of attention. I imagine spending time with people who are easy going and have a sense of humor because I am super goofy most of the time. I also need some patience because our priorities may not always align. I can be persuaded, but you may need to be a little persistent. I dream of walks and car rides and lots of little adventures. It would be nice to spend time in a fenced-in backyard with you, helping you garden, or helping you sit on the outside couch in the shade. Hanging out with other dogs sounds lovely as long as they have patience for me – I don’t intend to, but I can be a LOT sometimes. It’s just because I am so filled with love, enthusiasm, and appreciation for everything.
So, yeah…that’s me. If you are looking for someone to cuddle and hang with who is down to help you with your daily tasks and adventures, here I am! I look forward to meeting you soon.
