Well… hello there. My name’s Griffey. I’m a 6-year-old English Bulldog, and I guess I’m supposed to introduce myself.
I didn’t exactly have the easiest start. I was out there on my own for a while, dragging around a pretty awful tumor before somebody finally noticed I could use a hand. The tumor’s gone now, which is nice. The trouble is, they also discovered the cancer had already spread. It’s metastatic, which is a pretty big word that basically means I’ll be living with it for the rest of my life. My doctors and foster family are doing everything they can to keep me comfortable, and right now I’m feeling pretty good. I try not to spend much time worrying about what comes next. Doesn’t seem productive.
I already have a wonderful foster home, and because of my medical needs, I’ll be staying here as a forever foster. The rescue makes sure I get all the care I need, and my foster family makes sure I’m reminded every day that I’m loved. I’d say I came out pretty lucky.
What I do know is that I like people. I like being nearby while you do your thing. I enjoy pets and gentle attention, but I’m not one of those dogs who climbs all over you or hogs the couch. Now, toys? Those are important. Balls especially. I may move at the speed of a tired shopping cart, but I do enjoy carrying toys around and hanging out outside with them. I can get a little grumbly if another dog tries to take my toy away.Just seems fair that a fellow should keep hold of his favorite ball.
Life may look a little different for me than it does for most dogs. I leak a little, move slowly, and carry around a few extra worries. But I still greet every day with a wag, I still love my people with my whole heart, and I still think every tennis ball deserves to be carried around like a trophy.
