I've found my furever family!

Hi! My Name Is Duke

We're happy to tell you that Duke has a new furever home.

All hail Duke – the royal couch potato!

Don’t let my size fool you (a robust 80lbs)– I am a gentle giant! I’m still young (about 4 years old) and get a little excited around new people, but once I’ve gotten to know you, I will love you and you’ll love me, too!

CEBR is not sure of my story, but I was picked up from the shelter in rough shape – dirty, stinky, and with a nasty ear infection. CEBR and my foster family took me in, cleaned me up, nursed me back to clean ears and now I’m living the good life!

My foster mom and dad cannot get over how HANDSOME I am!  I’m a big boy with a big heart – and a big noggin to match! Did I mention I have a TAIL? It’s a pretty big one, too – no pocket, but I do need my tail “crack” cleaned every now and then… I love being with people, actually more like ON people. They are the best at snuggling, and I LOVE to snuggle! My foster mom says I’m like a living weighted blanket with surround snore!

My foster family thinks I should have been called Billy because I LOVE to climb things. Let’s just say I’ve been both IN and ON my crate! I’m a big boy but quite nimble – I can get some real air when leaping onto your lap for some snuggle time! Sometimes, I just need a place to rest my head – it just may be your lap, leg, or shoulder if you’re nearby! I also know a few tricks, including sit and high five (or paw).

I am pretty slow and easy going – I like short, easy walks! I love chewing and I sometimes chew things that aren’t mine. My foster family takes them away and reminds me to chew on my toys, not theirs! I’m learning. I love a good bone, and I’ll play chase if you move it on me! My favorite thing to do is to snooze on the couch (or a chair), or a blanket, or a person and get some good scratches and pets in!

I live with a canine foster sister and foster brother – I generally don’t react to them. I get a good sniff in, but once I’ve done my initial identification, I’m indifferent to the other dogs. My sis, Coconut, put me in my place when I got a little too nosy and then we’ve had no serious issues. My man Lawrence, though, is not a fan of big dogs like me – I don’t engage when he gets upset, unless he gets really snarly with me. I tend to just steer clear of him and don’t engage. If other dogs are welcoming, I’d probably get along pretty well.

I’m a pretty gentle dude – but I can get protective of my people and may not want to share them (and their snuggles). I’ll bark and jump on the couch between people if I want the attention.  I do NOT care for grooming.  I’m not aggressive, but I’m a master escape artist when it comes to cleaning my wrinkles or putting nose butter on my snout (HOW DARE YOU?!). Sometimes it takes TWO people – one to console me in my misery and one to apply the cream/wipe my wrinkles. Afterwards I roll around dramatically in protest – everyone finds that pretty funny!

My foster family has two big kids, and I’m pretty good with them. But I’m a little jumpy and big and may knock littles over!

I like to hang out outside, but just lay around in the sunshine. My foster family is consistent with regular potty breaks so I get used to going outside. I DO go the door, but I DON’T bark, so that’s led to a few accidents if no one SEES me by the door. It doesn’t bother me to be alone for a few hours, but I am getting used to a mid-day potty break so a new home where you work from home, have a flexible schedule, or a solid plan for a dog walker would be ideal.

I must get back to my royal couch duties – where I spend my days dreaming of my furever home!
